Origami

Take a flat, square piece of paper. Fold it in half. Fold it in half again. Keep doing that seven times - if you can. Pretty soon you'll end up with a shapeless blob which is quite un-foldable no matter how much force you use.

Global TV Series on Transgender

Well, transgender is finally mainstream. This week (Monday 18 April, 2011) Global TV began a series on "Trans Formation", a five-part look at what it means to be transgender in today's world.

It seems to be a well-researched, respectful and insightful look at the topic.

Here are links to the video stories from Global TV's website. Click Read more to see the rest of the videos and links to them.

Enjoy, and feel free to comment, here and on Global's site.

Esprit 2011 Registration is OPEN!

Esprit, the premier transgender gala event of the Pacific Northwest, is held every year in the seaside town of Port Angeles, Washington. The Cornbury Society is proud to be one of the three sponsoring clubs. This will be Esprit's 22nd year.

Esprit is a week-long event packed with classes on everything from makeup, self-defence and movement to high-end stuff like legal issues, surgery options and hormone treatment. All the presenters are experts in their fields and excellent speakers and presenters.

There's a range of onsite vendors too - you can buy wigs and breast forms, check out jewelry, get a makeover, have your hair (or wig!) styled and even have a glamour photo session.

Rest assured, though - Esprit has a wide variety of fun activities too. click Read more below...

Open Meetings - how they might work

Since rewriting the poll about open meetings, I've noticed a much greater response. On behalf of the executive who has to deal with these things, thank you. It seems a little more explanation is warranted, however, so people know exactly how this would all work in practice.

First, a bit of terminology. "Cornbury member" means a member in good standing, personally screened by a member of the executive before joining. "Site member" means anyone who has visited the Cornbury site and has been interested enough to create themselves an account. "General public" means pretty much everyone.

Newer, Better, Faster, Smarter. Smaller.

On Friday 25 June, your resident pretty face, a.k.a. geek - or is that geekette? - upgraded the old Cornbury server. If you've visited the site before, you've known and complained about how slow and unresponsive it was. But if you're reading this now, you'll already have noticed the biggest improvement.

SPEED.

The site is now about 15X faster than before, with much faster image display and page delivery. We're also saving about 0.25kWH energy!

How DID she do it, you ask?

Reflections on Full-Time

As many dear readers will know, I have begun the journey to transition. Well, perhaps it's more like starting on a major leg of that journey; transition for me really began when I came to the realisation (admitted to myself?) that I am indeed transgender. I'm not in this just for the clothes, just for the thrill, just for the excellence of the crossdressing craft, or indeed "just for" anything. I, as many transgenders will understand, am truly Stephanie at my centre.

New section for Trans Resources

There's a new page for resources specifically for those in or contemplating transition. See "For Trans Folks" under Site Navigation to your left. Contributions, links and suggestions welcome!

Check out the Bra Size Calculator!

Here's a handy gizmo! Go to the Bra Size Calculator and see what size bra you should be wearing!

Resource Directory and Geobrowser

There's a new toy to play with on the website! Under Site Navigation, click Resources. You'll see Resources, our familiar directory of businesses and resources. You'll also see Geobrowser, which is an interactive map with a list of clickable categories. Click to see where different types of business are located. Many are marked with cool little icons.

Please, if you spot any that are no longer in business, or know of any favourites that aren't showing up, email i...@cornbury.org. We'll update our directory accordingly.

Good news. Ten weeks from Friday will be a pretty good day.
